Dark Carnival

This tutorial was written by me on December 1st, 2014 and was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP.  You will need the following supplies:

"Carousel" is an awesome new kit by Gothic Inspirations and is available at her store HERE.  Thanks so much Jess!

I used the sexy pinup art of Barbara Jensen.  Her tubes are available for purchase at her store HERE.

Template #131 by Horseplay's Pasture, thanks Bev!

Mask #80 by Designs by Vaybs.

Font: I used Carnivalee Freakshow, HERE.

Drop Shadows used:

Tube: 2, 2, 73, 10
Template elements (exception: Strips and Oval): 0, 0, 73, 12
Everything else: 2, 2, 73, 8

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, shift + d to duplicate and close the original.

Change the canvas size to 800 x 750.  Delete the credit layer.  Activate the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate Circle 1; select all, float and defloat.  From the kit, open paper 12 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer; invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.  Apply drop shadow shown above.

Repeat these steps for the following layers:

Circle 2: use paper 12, resize 70%
Back Right & Left Rectangles: use paper 10, resize 70%
Oval: use paper 1, resize 70%
Top and Bottom Rectangles: use paper 11, resize 70%.  Do not deselect.  Resize the close-up tube 80%, copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Tap delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode to Luminance (L) and reduce the opacity to 47.

Activate Oval Back layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Change the foreground to #805c7f.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with foreground colour.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise > Gaussian, 47%, monochrome checked.  Delete the original layer.  Apply drop shadow.

Activate Strips layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Change foreground to #584057 and background to black (#000000).  Activate the flood fill tool, change the match mode to Colour, Tolerance to 20, blend mode normal and opacity 100.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill one of the strips with the foreground and the other with the background.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply the same noise effect as above.  Apply drop shadow 2, 2, 73, 8.

Resize the main tube 80%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Apply drop shadow above.

Add your elements and drop shadow.  I used:

Balloons: resize 35%, then 70%; duplicate and mirror
Blackbird: resize 25%, then 90%
Coins: resize 20%
Cotton Candy: resize 45%, duplicate and resize 85%.  Free rotate 20° right.
Doodle Swirls: resize 30%; duplicate and mirror
Flags: do not resize, use eraser tool to remove excess
Sign 2: resize 70%
Tent: resize 70%

Make sure everything is placed to your satisfaction, then hide the background layer.  Merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 85%.

Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste paper 14 into the selection.  Deselect.  Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur > Radius 8.  Apply Vaybs mask #80 and merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust mask size and placement.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name, I used Carnivalee Freakshow, size 72, Stroke 2, same colours as above.

Add all applicable copyright and license information and save your tag as a png.  You're finished!

Until next time...
