One Moonlit Night

(Click to see full-size)

This tutorial was written by me on May 16th, 2014 and was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.  This is a forum set tutorial consisting of a forum banner tag and avatar.  You will need the following supplies:

Beautiful tagger-size scrap kit "Magical Dreams" by Foxy's Designz, available at Heartbeatz Creationz.

Awesome tube by Claire Nobles "Heaven and Earth" can be purchased at PSP Tube Stop.

Eye Candy 4000, Gradient Glow
DSB Flux, Bright Noise

Forum mask #15 by Moonbeams & Spiderwebs.

Font: I used Mr. Bedfort, a pay font.  A web search will result in multiple links.

*Note: when referring to drop shadows, I use the following abbreviations:

V = Vertical
H = Horizontal
O = Opacity
B = Blur

~~ Let's begin! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 650 x 225.

From the kit, open paper 6 and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange so the "moon" shows at the top left corner.

Open paper 11 and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Apply MB&SW forum mask #15 and merge the mask group.  Apply a light drop shadow of choice or use my settings:

V: 2
H: 2
O: 20
B: 8

Open element #5 and resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange on the left side, as shown.  Apply drop shadow of choice or use my settings:

V: 2
H: 2
O: 67
B: 8

Duplicate the mask layer and resize 70%.  Move in front of the house and arrange as desired.

Open element #3 and resize 80%.  Copy and paste above the paper layer and change the blend mode to Overlay.

Choose the tube "Heaven and Earth Rock" and resize 75%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move to the right side.  Apply drop shadow above.

Open element 25, do not resize.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move below the tube layer.  Move to the right and down until you only see some of the leaves and branches.  See my tag for reference.  Drop shadow.

Open element #18 and resize 30%, duplicate and mirror.  Resize copy 85% and move behind tube layer.  See my tag for placement.  Drop shadow.

Make sure all layers are arranged to your satisfaction, then merge visible.

Add a new raster layer and flood fill with #321c5e.  Selections > Select all > Selections > Modify > Contract > contract 5.  Tap delete and deselect.  Duplicate this layer twice for a total of three.  Rename each layer frame 1, frame 2 and frame 3.  Hide frame 2 and 3 and activate frame 1.

Effects > Plugins > DSB Flux > Bright Noise > Intensity: 70, Lighter button selected.  Click OK.

Hide frame 1, open and activate frame 2.  Apply Bright Noise again, clicking the Lighter button twice.  Repeat for frame 3, clicking the Lighter button 3 times.

Apply drop shadows to all three frame layers.  I applied drop shadow twice to each layer, once with the same settings as above, and again with these settings:

V: -2
H: -2
O: 67
B: 8

Add your name, if using the same font as I did (Mr. Bedfort), I used size 65, Stroke 0, colour #321c5e.

Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 4000 > Gradient Glow

Under the Colour tab, select "Thin"

Under the Basic tab:

Glow Width: 3.00
Soft Corners: 0
Overall Opacity: 100

Click OK.

Apply drop shadow.

Add all applicable copyright and license information.  Hide frame 2 and 3 and open frame 1.  Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and click "Paste as a new animation".

Back in PSP, hide frame 1 and open frame 2.  Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

In AS > Edit > Paste > After Current Frame

Repeat these steps for frame 3.

View > Animation to see your tag in action.

Save your tag as a gif:

Go to File, Save as, enter the name of your tag and select the folder you'd like it saved to.

Click on Customize:

Under COLOURS tab:
Number of colours: 255 Colours
Create palette by: OPTIMIZED OCTREE
Reduce colours by: Error Diffusion

place a check mark beside the second, third and forth choices. UN-check the first and last.

check Convert pixels less than 92
Yes, blend with this colour: change to white #ffffff

Click OK. Click Next, next, next, next.

To create the avatar, open a new image 150 x 150.  Open paper 6 and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.

Open the tube "Heaven and Earth" and resize 75%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Apply the same drop shadow you've been using.

Add your initial using the same font and size you used for your tag.

Create a frame following the instructions above and animate in the same manner.  Save as a gif using the settings above.

I hope you enjoy your new forum set!

I love to see your results, email me HERE to show them off! ☺︎

Hugs, Carol ♥︎
