Spring Equinox

This tutorial was written by me on April 14th, 2014 and was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP.  You will need the following supplies:

"Spring Equinox Part 1" is a gorgeous tagger-size scrap kit by Gothic Inspirations and is available at her store HERE.  Thanks so much for another beautiful kit Jess!

"Paradise Bird" is a stunning tube by Alena Lazareva and is available at Up Your Art.  You must have a license to use her art.

Template #43 by Scrapity Scrap & More (aka A Space Between).

Mask #80 by Designs by Vaybs.

Font used: Plebya Swash 3, a pay font.  A web search will result in multiple links.

*Note: when referring to drop shadows, I use the following abbreviations:

V = Vertical
H = Horizontal
O = Opacity
B = Blur

~~ Let's get started! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template, shift + d to duplicate; close the original.

Delete Raster 5.  Duplicate Raster 4 and move the copy below Raster 8.  Arrange behind the circle frame.

Activate Raster 9.  Select all, float and defloat.  From the kit, open paper 3 and resize 75%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert selection and tap delete; deselect.  Delete original layer.  Apply a drop shadow of choice or use my settings: V: 0, H: 0, O: 50, B: 13.

Repeat these steps for the following layers:

Raster 6: use paper 10.
Raster 7: use paper 11.
Raster 2: use paper 3.
Raster 8: use paper 10; resize paper 60%.  Drop shadow settings: V&H: 2, O: 50, B: 10.
Raster 3: use paper 10, resize paper 60%.  Drop shadow using settings above.

Activate Raster 4; select all, float and defloat.  Open paper 13 and resize 55%.  Copy and paste as a new layer; invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Open the tube (the one just above the image) and copy.  Paste as a new layer and arrange within the selection as desired.  Tap delete and deselect.  Apply a drop shadow to the tube, I used V: 2, H: 2, O: 50, B: 10.  Change the blend mode to Overlay.

Repeat these steps for Copy of Raster 4.

Activate the top layer.  Copy and paste tube (b) as a new layer and arrange in the center, as shown.

Let's soften her hair's hard edge.  Activate your freehand selection tool with these settings:

Selection type: Point-to-point
Mode: Add (Shift)
Feather: 0
Smoothing: 0
Anti-alias and Use all layers: unchecked.

Draw a selection around the ends of the hair, like this:

Don't draw a straight line, as we want to minimize that.

Selections > Modify > Inside/Outside Feather > select Both, Feather Amount: 10.  Tap delete two or three times until you have something that looks like this:

Apply drop shadow to the tube using the settings above.

Add your elements, I used:

Branch: resize 40%; arrange behind the tube on the left side.  Duplicate, mirror and free rotate 45° left.  Refer to my tag for placement.  Sharpen.
Flowers 1: resize 50%; duplicate and mirror.
Flower 1: resize 30%; duplicate and resize 85%.  Arrange in front of original.
Flowers 2: resize 35%; duplicate and mirror.
Grass 2: resize 30%; duplicate as desired and arrange among the flowers.  Resize two of the copies 85% and arrange in front of the flowers.
Tree: resize 85%, paste above the background layer and arrange on the right side.  Erase the trunk that shows below the template.

Drop shadow all elements using the settings above.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 85%.  Unhide the background and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste paper 5 into the selection.  Deselect and apply Vaybs mask #80; merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust mask size and placement.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a png and you're finished.  Thanks for trying my tutorial!

Hugs, Carol♥
