Getting Ready For Spring

This tutorial was written by me on April 24th, 2014 and was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP.  You will need the following supplies:

"Wildflowers" is a very pretty kit by Bluebird Design and is available at Heartbeatz Creationz.

I used the stunning artwork of Verymany.  You must have a license to use.

Template 002 by Polka Dot Scraps.

Mask #34 by Moonbeams & Spiderwebs.

Eye Candy 4000; Gradient Glow.

*Note: When referring to drop shadows, I use the following abbreviations:

V = Vertical
H = Horizontal
O = Opacity
B = Blur

~~ Let's get started! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, shift + d to duplicate; close the original.

Delete the top three layers (copyright, spring wordart, wordart mat).  Resize all layers 85% and change the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Activate the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate oval layer; select all, float and defloat.  From the kit, open paper 1, do not resize.  Copy and paste as a new layer; invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Repeat these steps for the following layers:

Left bottom circle: paper 3, apply drop shadow of choice, or use V&H: 2, O: 55, B: 8
Right top circle: paper 3, apply drop shadow above.
Diag rectangle: paper 7, resize 70%
Rectangle: paper 7, resize 70%

Resize the main tube 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange in the center of the tag, as shown.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, or use my settings: V&H: 0, O: 55, B: 14

Activate the large circle layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Copy and paste paper 4 as a new layer.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Copy the close-up tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize the tube 70% and arrange within the selection (see my tag for reference).  Tap delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode to Soft Light and lower the opacity to 75.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, or use my settings: V&H: 2, O: 55, B: 8.

Activate the medium circle layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Open paper 10 and resize 70%, then mirror and flip the image.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Tap delete, do not deselect.

Paste the close-up tube as a new layer and resize 50%.  Arrange as shown within the selection.  Tap delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode to Soft Light and apply drop shadow above.

Open Glitter 01 and Glitter 04 and minimize each.  Change the foreground to Pattern and select Glitter 01 from the drop down menu, Angle 0 and Scale set to 40.  Change the background to Pattern, using the same settings and choosing Glitter 04 from the drop down menu.

Activate oval frame; select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with the foreground pattern.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply drop shadow above.

Repeat these steps for the following layers:

Large circle frame: foreground pattern
Rectangle frame: background pattern
Medium circle frame: background pattern

Now add your elements.  Open "Flowers" and use your freehand selection tool to select the elements you wish to use.  Here's what I used:

Bouquet located at top right: resize 40%; duplicate and mirror.

Stem with leaves, located at the top, toward the center of the canvas: resize 50%; duplicate, mirror and flip.

Individual Bloom located at top left: resize 30%, duplicate and mirror, duplicate again and resize 85%.  Arrange as desired on the leaf stem, see my tag for reference.

Butterflies: I used both butterflies, copied and pasted individually.  Resize each 20%.  Duplicate as desired, resizing some a further 85%.

Apply drop shadow above to all elements.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 85%.  Unhide the background and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste paper 4 into the selection.  Deselect and apply Moonbeams & Spiderwebs mask #34; merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust mask size and placement.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name using AL Charisma, size setting will depend on how much you resized the tag.  I used size 80, Bold, colour #22449d.

Apply Eye Candy 4000 Gradient Glow.  Under the Colour tab, select "Medium".  Under the Basic tab, change the Glow Width to 3, Soft Corners to 0 and Overall Opacity to 100.  Draw Only Outside Selection: checked.

Add all applicable copyright and license information and you're finished.  Thanks for trying my tutorial!  :)

Hugs, Carol♥
