For The Fallen

This tutorial was written by me on April 25th, 2014 and was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP.  You will need the following supplies:

"Deployment" is a lovely tagger-size kit by Horseplay's Pasture Designs, available at Scraps From The Heart.  Thank you for another stunning kit Bev!

Tube "Release" by The Vintage Angel™, available at CDO.  You must have a license to use.

Template #194 by Millie's PSP Madness.  Her temps are available as bulk downloads, links are on the left side.

Font: Typewriter OldStyle, HERE.

*Note: when referring to drop shadows, I use the following abbreviations:

V = Vertical
H = Horizontal
O = Opacity
B = Blur

~~ Let's get started! ~~

Open the template in PSP, shift + d to duplicate; close the original.

Resize all layers 85%, change the canvas size to 800 x 750.  Delete the first three layers (Raster 1, 11, and 10).  Unhide the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate layer 1; select all, float and defloat.  From the kit, open paper 6 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.  Apply a drop shadow of choice or use my settings: V&H: 0, O: 50, B: 10.

Repeat these steps for the following layers:

#2: use paper 6
#3: use paper 2
#4: use paper 9
#5: use paper 16
#7: use paper 6
#9: use paper 11

Activate layer 8; select all, float and defloat.  Open paper 2 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer; invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Resize the tube 90%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as shown on my tag.  Use the eraser to remove any excess at the bottom but leave the wings showing outside the selection at the top.  Deselect.

Activate the freehand selection tool with these settings:

Selection type: Point to point
Mode: Add (Shift)
Feather: 0
Smoothing: 0
Anti-alias and Use all layers: unchecked

Draw a random selection along the edge of the wings, do not use a straight line.

Selections > Modify > Inside/Outside Feather > select "Both" and set feather amount to 7.  Click Ok.  Your selection will now look something like this:

Tap delete once or twice to soften the edge.  Apply drop shadow of choice or use my settings: V&H: 2, O: 53, B: 12.

Activate layer 6, select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and zoom in to see the selection better.  Flood fill the selection with #1d1d15.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Now add your elements, I used:

#12: resize 25%
#13: resize 20%; duplicate and mirror
#15: resize 20%, then 80%; duplicate and mirror
#18: resize 70%; free rotate 12° left and sharpen
#25: resize 55%
#27: resize 60%
#34: resize 70%; duplicate, mirror and resize 85%
#36: do not resize.  Drop shadow V&H: 0, O: 21, B: 12
#41: do not resize; duplicate, mirror and duplicate once again
#48: resize 80%
#57: resize 60%
#59: resize 80%, duplicate and mirror, erase any excess

Apply drop shadow of choice to the elements or use my settings: V&H: 2, O: 50, B: 10.

I added some text to the postcard using Typewriter OldStyle, size 5, colour #1d1d15.  I just typed some random words as it's too small to read anyway.  :)  Apply drop shadow above.

Hide background and merge visible.  Unhide background.  Crop and resize your tag, then add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Font used was Typewriter OldStyle and size will depend on how much you resized your tag.  I used size 60, stroke 0, colour #1d1d15.

Save your tag as a png and you're finished.  Thanks for trying my tutorial and email me HERE to show off your results!

Hugs, Carol♥
