That Christmas Feeling

This tutorial was written by me on December 14th, 2013 and was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.  You will need the following supplies:

"That Christmas Feeling" is a beautiful new kit from Designs by Stina and is available in both full and tagger-size.  Please visit Stina's blog HERE to find links to her stores.

Gorgeous tube by Barbara Jensen.  Her tubes are available at her store HERE.

Christmas template 7 by Tracy F. Designz, available HERE.  Scroll down to find links to her templates, located on the right side of the page.

Christmas Mask #5 by Designs by Vaybs.

Font: I used Mr. Bedfort, a pay font.  Any nice script font will work just as well.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, shift + d to duplicate and close the original.  Delete the credit layer and change the canvas size to 800 x 750.  Add a new raster layer, flood fill with white and send to the bottom.

Activate Circle 1; select all, float and defloat.  From the kit, open Paper 1 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Activate Circle 2; select all, float and defloat.  Open Paper 12 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Activate Square 1; select all, float and defloat.  Open Paper 7 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Open Snow Sparkles and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange within the selection.  Tap delete and deselect.

Repeat these steps for Square 2, using Paper 6.

Activate Strip; select all, float and defloat.  Open Paper 3 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Invert selection, tap delete and deselect.  Delete original layer.

Activate text; select all, float and defloat.  Open Paper 1 and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect, delete original layer.

Apply the following drop shadow to all the "fill" layers (except text fill):  V&H 0, Opacity 65, Blur 15.

Resize the tube 85%.  Copy and paste below the strip fill layer and arrange as shown.  Using the rectangle selection tool, draw a selection around the bottom part of the tube that shows beneath the banner.  Tap delete and deselect.  Apply a drop shadow of choice.  I used V -4, H 4, Opacity 38, Blur 18.

Add your elements, I used:

Branch_01: resize 40%; duplicate twice and mirror once; duplicate the mirrored image and arrange as shown.
Branch_02: resize 40%, then 90%
Candles_01: resize 35%
Glitter Branches_01, 02 & 03: resize each 35%
Icicle Lights: resize 60%; duplicate and mirror, erase any lights that cover the bird.

Apply drop shadow to all elements and text fill, I used V&H 2, Opacity 65, Blur 10.

Add a new raster layer above the background layer.  Select all.  Open Paper 2, copy and paste into the selection.  Deselect and apply Vaybs Christmas mask #5; merge the mask group.  Duplicate the mask layer to make it a bit darker.

Resize all layers 85%.

Add your name, I used Mr. Bedfort, size 72, Stroke 0, colour #841013.  Apply same drop shadow as above.

You may now resize further and save as a png if you wish.  If you'd like to animate the tag, read on.

Duplicate the Icicle Lights layer twice for a total of three.  Rename each layer lights 1, lights 2 and lights 3.  Hide all but the original (lights 1)

Make sure lights 1 is the active layer.  Activate the magic wand tool with these settings:

Mode: Add (Shift)
Match Mode: RGB Value
Tolerance: 20
Contiguous: checked

Starting with the light on the far left, click with the magic wand on every other light.  You may have to click more than once to select the entire light.

Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Brightness/Contrast > Set Brightness to -35 and Contrast to 5.  Click OK.  Deselect

Leave lights 2 as is.  Activate lights 3.

Using the magic wand, select every other light again, starting with the second light from the left, like this:

(Click for larger image)

Adjust > Brightness and Contrast with the same settings.  Click OK.  Deselect.

Hide lights 3 and open lights 1.

Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

Open Animation Shop.

Edit > Paste > As New Animation.

Back in PSP, hide lights 1 and open lights 2.

Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

In AS: Edit > Paste > After Current Frame.

Repeat for lights 3.

Edit > Select all

Animation > Frame Properties > set display time to 25.

View > Animation to see your tag in action.  Use the animation wizard to save as a gif and you're finished.  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

I always love to hear from you and see your results, please email me HERE.  :)

Here is the still version:
