Let's Start Unwrapping!

Let's Start Unwrapping!

This tutorial was written by me on December 14th, 2012 and was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP.  You will need the following supplies:

I used a stunning full-size kit called Glorious Christmas by Country Liv's Graphics.  Oh my, this kit certainly lives up to it's name, it's gorgeous!!  I just scratched the surface in this tag, there are lots of beautiful elements and papers included.  Thanks so much Liv!  You will find it at Bella Zingaro Studio.

I used the beautiful pin-up art of Jessica Dougherty.  Jessica was with CILM when I bought this tube but her work can now be purchased at CDO.  You must have a license to use.

Mask #209 by Weescotslass.

Font: I used Caramel Crunch, a pay font.  Any nice swash script font, such as Freebooter will work nicely.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP mask folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 850 x 800, white background.

From the kit, open Frame 2 and resize 15%, then 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move to the bottom and left, see my tag for reference.

Using the magic wand, click inside the frame.  Selections > Modify > Expand > expand by 5.

Open Paper 17 and resize 15%, copy and paste as a new layer, move below the frame.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect, invert the selection.

Add a new raster layer.

Open Paper 03 and copy.  Paste into the selection, do not deselect.

Add a new raster layer.

Open Mask 2 and copy.  Paste into the selection.  Deselect.  While on the mask layer, select all, float and defloat.  You may now delete the mask layer.

Activate the red paper layer and tap delete.  Deselect.  Apply a light drop shadow, I used H&V 1, Opacity 30, Blur 5.

Drop shadow the frame, I used H&V 2, Opacity 60, Blur 10.

Activate your text tool: Font Caramel Crunch (if using), create as a vector, size 48, stroke 0, colour #730505.  Type Merry Christmas (or a greeting of choice).  Place the text in the frame and convert to a raster layer.  Drop shadow using the settings above.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, I did not resize.  Arrange on the right side of the frame.

Now add your elements; I used:

Christmas Tree: resize 17%
Gift 1: resize 25%, then 70%
Gift 2: resize 10%, then 70%
Gift 3: resize 10%, then 80%
Cluster 2: resize 15%
Butterfly: resize 10%, then 60%; free rotate 12 degrees left.  Duplicate and mirror.

Drop shadow the elements using the settings above.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 85%.  Edit > Cut > Edit > Paste as a new layer.  This will center your tag.

Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Copy and paste Paper 02 into the selection; deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Reduce the opacity to 80%.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust size and placement of the mask.

Activate the text tool: Create as a vector, size 85, stroke 1, foreground colour #e4c987, background colour #730505.  Type your name and place it where you want.  Convert to a raster layer and apply drop shadow using the settings above.

Crop and resize your tag.

Add all copyright and license information.  Save as a png or jpg and you're finished!  I hope you enjoy your new tag.

I'd love to see your results, email me HERE.

Hugs, Carol
