Colours of Summer

This tutorial was written by me on July 14th, 2012 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit: I used a beautiful FTU kit by Tasha's Playground called "Misfit Spring" and is available to download at Creative Misfit Creations.  Thank you for this lovely kit Tasha!!

Tube: I used a gorgeous tube by Renee Lavoie called "Pockets".  I LOVE the colours of this tube, it's breathtaking!  You can purchase Renee's tubes from PSP Tube Stop.  Please don't use without a license.

Template: I used another one of Bev's awesome templates, #142.  Download from her blog HERE.

Mask: I used mask #35 by Weescotslass.

Plug-in: I used Eye Candy 4000 Gradient Glow on my name.

Font: I used Miss Fitzpatrick, a pay font.

Drop shadows used:

On template elements: H&V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 12
Everything else: H&V 2, Opacity 55, Blur 10

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.

Delete the credit layer.  Change the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Activate the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate Rec 1; select all, float and defloat.  Open a paper of choice and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Repeat for Oval layer but do not deselect.  Copy sparkles from the kit and paste as a new layer above the paper layer.  Tap delete.  Open the tube and resize 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as desired.  Tap delete and deselect.

Activate Rec 2; select all, float and defloat.  Change foreground to #f677b9 and background to #000347.  Change foreground to gradient with these settings:

Style: Radial
Angle: 45
Repeats: 5
Invert: checked.

Add a new raster layer and flood fill with the gradient.  Deselect and delete original layer.

Use the Colour Replacer tool to change the dotted corner layers to the foreground colour.  Change the stars layer to the background colour.  Alternately, you could select all, float, defloat and flood fill if you prefer to use that method.

Activate the Strip layer; select all, float and defloat.  Flood fill with background colour.

Add your elements, I used:

dots: do not resize, arrange above the background layer at the top left side.  Duplicate and mirror, arrange on the bottom right.
tree: do not resize
flowers: resize 85%
flowerbranch: resize 70%; duplicate and mirror, resize copy 85%
branch: do not resize; duplicate, free rotate 10 degrees left and sharpen.  Duplicate and mirror.  Arrange as seen in my tag.
bird: resize 40%; duplicate and mirror

Apply drop shadows.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Flood fill with the gradient above, only this time uncheck the Invert box.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name and apply the gradient glow if desired.  Here are the settings I used:

Under the Colour tab: choose "Medium" from the list of presets.

Under the Basic tab, change settings to:

Glow Width: 3.00
Soft Corners: 0
Overall Opacity: 100
Draw Only Outside Selection: checked

Click OK

Add all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a png or jpg and you're finished!  Enjoy your new tag.  : )

I'd love to see your results, please feel free to send them to my email, HERE.

Hugs, Carol
