A Star Is Born

This tutorial was written by me on June 18th, 2012 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a beautiful FTU kit by Candy's Treats.  Visit Diane's blog HERE to find out where you can download "Shades Of Grey".

Tube of choice: I used a wonderful tube by Shawn Palek called "Teddy".  You can purchase this artist's tubes from Up Your Art, please don't use without a license.

Mask: I used mask #89 by Designs by Vaybs.

Filter used: Black Pencil, comes with PSP.

Font: I used Mr. Bedfort, a pay font.  Any nice script font will work however.

Drop shadows used:

For frame: H&V 0, Opacity 62, Blur 12
Everything else: H&V 2, Opacity 62, Blur 8

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 750 x 750, white background.

From the kit, open Cluster frame 4.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move slightly to the left.

Using the magic wand, click inside the frame and expand the selection by 5.

Open a paper of choice and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move below the frame.  Invert the selection and tap delete, do not deselect.

Copy and paste the tube as a new layer above the paper.  Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize > Hue: 255, Saturation: 0.  Resize 120% and arrange in the frame.  Tap delete and deselect.

Effects > Art Media Effects > Black Pencil > Choose Medium Pencil from the drop down menu and change the Opacity to 25, leave Detail at 50.  Click OK.

Paste your tube as a new layer (it should still be on the clipboard) and Colorize using the settings above.  Arrange on the right side of the frame, see my tag for reference.

Add your elements, I used:

Silver Stud: resize 30%
22: resize 30%, duplicate and mirror; duplicate again and resize 70%.  Duplicate and resize as desired to create the effect you like.  : )  Sharpen the smaller copies.
26: resize 70%; free rotate 4 degrees right and sharpen.

Apply drop shadows.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Unhide background and add a new raster layer.  Select all, copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection; deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a png or jpg and you're finished.  Enjoy your new tag!

I'd love to see your results, email me HERE.  : )

Hugs, Carol
