Dance In The Rain

This tutorial was written by me on February 20th, 2012 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an awesome new kit called "Good Day For Ducks" by Bev of Horseplay's Pasture Designs.  LOVE this kit!!!  You can get it at Lollipops & Gumdrops.  Thanks so much Bev!

Tube of choice: I'm using the adorable art of Suzanne Woolcott aka Gorjuss.  You can purchase Suzanne's tubes from her store, HERE.

Mask of choice: I used mask #80 by Vaybs, HERE.

Filter needed: Snowflakes by VanDerLee, HERE.

Font of choice: I used Curlz MT, a pay font.  HERE'S a link to some curly fonts that are FTU.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Open a new image, 800 x 750, white background.

From the kit, open element 11 and resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move to the left side of the canvas.  Duplicate and mirror.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, I used H&V 2, Opacity 50, Blur 10.

Resize the tube 80%, then 90%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange as shown in my tag.  Drop shadow.

Add your elements, I used:

1: resize 8% and mirror; free rotate 45 degrees right; sharpen
2: resize 8%; free rotate 20 degrees right; sharpen
3: resize 15%
4: resize 35%, then 85%
11: resize 50%; duplicate and mirror
13: resize 15%, then 85%
14: resize 15%
30: resize 45%
31: resize 30%
32: resize 30%
38: resize 60%
39: resize 90%
40: resize 30%
42: resize 25%
43: resize 30%
47: resize 50%; duplicate
56: do not resize
59: do not resize
65 & 66: resize 12%

Apply drop shadow.  Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection and deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Crop and resize your tag, make sure resize all layers is checked.  I resized 80%.  Activate your merged layer and merge down.

Add three new raster layers.  Name them Rain 1, Rain 2 and Rain 3.  Hide all but Rain 1.

Apply Snowflakes filter using these settings:

From the drop down menu, select "Basic - Icy Blue" and change the colour to #cff1f3.

Hide Rain 1, open and activate Rain 2.  Apply the Snowflakes filter again, this time changing the Random Seed to 5.

Repeat for Rain 3, changing the Random Seed to 0.

Adjust > Blur > Motion Blur > Angle: 160, Strength: 100%.  Apply this effect to all Snowflake layers.

Using the rectangle selection tool, draw a selection like this:

Selections > Modify > Inside/Outside Feather > Select Both, Feather amount: 20.  Invert selection and tap delete two or three times.  Do this to all three Rain layers.  This will soften the edges a bit.

Now add a quote of choice if desired, I used the "Dance in the rain" quote.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Time to animate!  Open Animation Shop.

Hide Rain 2 and 3 and leave Rain 1 open.  Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

In Animation Shop, right click on the workspace and choose Copy As A New Animation.

Back in PSP, hide Rain 1 and open Rain 2; copy merged.

In AS, right click on your new animation and choose Paste > After Current Frame.

Repeat for Rain 3.

Edit > Select All.

Animation > Frame Properties > change to 25.

View > Animation to see your tag in action!

Save as a gif and you're finished!  I hope you enjoy your new tag!

Email me HERE to show me your results!

Hugs, Carol
