Santa Baby (FTU)

(Click tag to see full-size image)

Santa Baby

This tutorial was written by me on December 5th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an awesome FTU kit by Puddicat Creations called "Santa's Secrets".  You can download it HERE.  Please remember to leave some love when you do as it's a small price to pay for hard work freely shared.  : )  Thank you so much Cindy!

2 tubes of choice: I used the gorgeous pinup art of Steve Baier.  You can purchase his tubes from Up Your Art.  You must have a license to use.

Template of choice: I used yet another one of the wonderful Christmas collab templates available from DeeSign Depot.  Can you tell I love these temps?  LOL!  I used template #6 this time.  Download HERE.

Mask of choice: I used a Christmas mask by Vix, #3.  Download HERE.

Plug-in used: Eye Candy 4000, Gradient Glow.

Font of choice: I used Alex Brush, which is a pay font.  Any nice free script font will work however.  Try Exmouth, HERE.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.

Delete the info and red star with gradient layers.  Adjust the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Unhide the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate the green oval layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Open a paper of choice from the kit and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, invert selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply drop shadow of choice: I used H&V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 8.

Follow these steps for the following layers: gradient shape, red star and green rectangle.  Before deselecting the green rectangle layer, copy and paste your main tube as a new layer. Resize as desired, I resized 75%.  Arrange within the selection and use your eraser to remove any parts of the tube that extend beyond the selection on the bottom.  Deselect and apply a drop shadow of choice.

For the red star paper layer, add a gradient glow effect with Eye Candy 4000 using these settings:

Under the Colour tab: Select Medium
Under the Basic tab:
Glow Width: 5.00
Soft Corners: 25
Overall Opacity: 100
Draw Only Outside Selection: checked

Click OK, apply drop shadow.

Activate the bottom gold circle layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Copy and paste your other tube as a new layer, resize as desired.  I resized 55%.  Arrange within the selection, invert and tap delete.  Deselect and apply drop shadow of choice.  Change the blend mode to Overlay.  Drop shadow gold circle using the settings above.  Repeat for top gold circle.

Activate white rectangle, select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer.  Change foreground to #e7df8d and background to #908346.  Change foreground to gradient with these settings:

Style: Linear
Angle: 45
Repeats: 3
Invert: unchecked

Flood fill the selection with this gradient and deselect.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise > Random, 75%, Monochrome checked.  Click OK.

Apply drop shadow of choice to top and bottom dotted circle and gold stars layers.  I used H&V 2, Opacity 55, Blur 8.

Apply drop shadow of choice to gold oval and shape gold frame layers.  I used H&V 0, Opacity 55, Blur 12.

Change foreground to #c00000 and background to #8b0000.  Activate the wordart layer.  Select the Colour Replacer tool with these settings:

Size: 999
Hardness: 100
Step: 10
Density: 100
Thickness: 100
Rotation: 0
Tolerance: 40

Center your brush over your tag and left click.

Change the foreground to #008000 and background to #056100.  Use the Colour Replacer tool again.

Merge the wordart and wordart back layers together.  Using the rectangle selection tool, draw a selection around "Santa Baby".  Selections > Promote Selection to Layer.  Activate the merged layer again and tap delete.  The two parts of the word art are now on separate layers so you can move and adjust them as you wish.  Drop shadow.

Add your elements, I used:

bells2: resize 40%
present1: resize 30%
present2: resize 35%
present3: resize 40%
mouse1: resize 30%, then 80%
XmasTree1: resize 80%

Drop shadow all elements, I used: H&V 2, Opacity 55, Blur 8.

Hide background layer and merge visible.  Resize merged layer 85%.

Unhide background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all, copy and paste a paper of choice into selection.  Deselect and apply the mask, merge the mask group.

Activate your merged layer once again.  Edit > Cut > Edit > Paste As A New Layer.  This will center your tag over the masked layer.

Crop and resize.

Add your name.  Select all, float and defloat.  Expand selection by 2 and add a new raster layer.  Move layer below your name and flood fill with white.  Deselect and drop shadow.

Add all applicable copyright and license information.  Save your tag as a png or jpg.  Enjoy your new tag!

I'd love to see your results!  Email me HERE.

Hugs, Carol
