A Winter's Beauty

This tutorial was written by me on November 14th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop, their tools and functions.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an absolutely stunning kit by Dillie's Designs called "A Winter's Beauty".  This is such a beautiful kit!  You can get it at Lollipops and Gumdrops.

Tube of choice: I used the sexy pinup art of Jessica Dougherty.  Jessica was with CILM when I purchased this tube but you can now find her tubes at CDO.  You must have a license to use her art.

Mask of choice: I used Vix Big mask #18, download HERE

Animation Shop

Snow animation: download HERE

Font of choice: I used Burgues, a pay font

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 750 x 750, white background.  Add a new raster layer and select all.

Open a paper of choice from the kit (I used paper #4).  Copy and paste into the selection, deselect.

Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer and resize 90%, move to the left side of the canvas (see my tag for placement).  Apply a drop shadow of choice.

Resize the Wordart 20%, copy and paste as a new layer above the masked layer.  Arrange as seen in my tag.  Apply the following drop shadows:

H&V 2, Opacity 60, Blur 8, Colour: Black (use this drop shadow for all elements, unless otherwise noted.)
H -1, V -1, Opacity 40, Blur 8, Colour: #777d87

Open the Tree and resize 25%, copy and paste as a new layer and move below the tube layer.  Duplicate the tree and mirror, resize 85%.  Arrange as shown, drop shadow.  Merge these two layers together

Now add your other elements, I used:

Tree1: resize 25%, then 80%
Bunny: resize 10% (Drop shadow: H 1, V -2, Opacity 25, Blur 8, Colour: Black)
Swirlies: resize 50%, move below the trees layer
Bird: resize 10%, then 35%; duplicate and mirror, arrange on wordart as desired

Hide the following layers: Background, Mask, Swirlies, and Trees.  Merge visible all other layers.  Rename this layer Foreground.

Hide the Foreground layer and merge visible all other layers.  Rename this layer Background.  Unhide Foreground layer.

Crop your tag, then resize all layers 80%.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license info.

Open Animation Shop

Copy the Background layer, switch to Animation Shop and paste as a new animation.

Edit > Duplicate Selected.  Repeat this step until you have 10 frames.

Edit > Select All

Open the snow animation in AS, Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy

Activate your tag, Edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame.

Arrange the snow over your tag, left click to place.  If you make a mistake, click undo and try again.

View > Animation to check the effect.

Back to PSP, hide the Background layer and leave the Foreground layer, your name and copyright info open.  Right click on your tag and choose Copy Merged from the menu that opens.

Back in AS, right click on workspace and paste as a new animation.  Edit > Copy.

Activate your Background animation.

Edit > Select All > Edit > Propagate Paste > Edit > Paste > Paste Into Selected Frame.

Arrange the foreground as desired and left click to place.

View > Animation to see the final result.

Save as a gif and enjoy!  : )

I'd love to show off your results in my slide show, email me HERE.

Hugs, Carol
