The Happiest Season Of All

This tutorial was written by me on November 28th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work with other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit by A Taggers Scrap called "Bright & Beautiful Xmas".  This kit is simply stunning!  You can purchase it at Sophisti-Scraps.  Thank you so much Jo!

Tube and close-up of choice: I used the art of Anna Liwanag, you may purchase her tubes from PTE.  This tube was part of the PTE 2011 Christmas gift, you must have a license to use it.

Template of choice: I used a wonderful collab template (template #2) from DeeSign Depot.  Download HERE.

Mask of choice: I used Vix Christmas mask #4, download HERE.

Plug-in used: DSB Flux, Bright Noise, download HERE.

Font of choice: I used Fragrance, which is a pay font.  Any script font will work fine, Aquarelle would be a good choice, download HERE.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete the info layer, change the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Unhide the background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate the green bars layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Open a paper of choice and resize 70 to 80% (your preference).  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, I used: H&V 0, Opacity 62, Blur 12

Follow the steps above for the following layers: gold oval, red rectangle, star backs.  After adding the paper to the star backs layer, do not deselect.  Open your close-up tube and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange within the selection on the left side.  Tap delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode to Darken or one of your preference.  Apply drop shadow to the tube, I used H&V 2, Opacity 62, Blur 10.  Do not drop shadow the star backs or red rectangle layer.

Copy and paste your main tube as a new layer and move beneath all the text layers.  Drop shadow using settings above.

Activate Raster 3, select all, float and defloat.  Change foreground to #040404 and flood fill selection.  Deselect.  Apply drop shadow: H&V 0, Opacity 62, Blur 12.  Apply this drop shadow to Raster 2 as well.

Activate Copy of Raster 6.  Select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with #d72c8c.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Drop shadow using H&V 2, Opacity 62, Blur 10.  Apply this drop shadow to Raster 5 as well.

Activate the Tinsel Gold layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with #f9fafc.  Duplicate this layer twice for a total of 3 layers.  Rename each Tinsel 1, Tinsel 2 and Tinsel 3.  Hide Tinsel 2 and 3.  Activate Tinsel 1 and apply DSB Flux, Bright Noise with the following settings:

Intensity: 50
Mix radio button selected.

Click OK.

Hide Tinsel 1, open and activate Tinsel 2.  Apply Bright Noise again, same setting but clicking the Mix button twice.  Do the same for Tinsel 3, clicking the Mix button 3 times.

Drop shadow each layer using the settings above.

Activate the gold frame layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with #f9fafc.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise > Uniform, 50%, Monochrome checked.  Click OK.  Do not deselect.

Selections > Modify > Contract > contract by 3.  Flood fill selection with #040404.  Deselect.

Follow these same steps for the star frames layer.

Activate the Gradient Season layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer.

Foreground: #f9fafc, Background: #040404.  Change foreground to Gradient with these settings:

Style: Linear
Angle: 45
Repeats: 10
Invert: unchecked

Flood fill the selection with this gradient.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Duplicate twice for a total of three layers and rename Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3.  Follow the directions above to add the Bright Noise effect to these three layers.

Activate The Happiest Of All Gold layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Change the background to #d72c8c.  Change the gradient settings to:

Style: Linear
Angle: 45
Repeats: 5
Invert: checked

Flood fill the selection with this gradient and deselect.  Delete the original layer.

Now add your elements, I used:

bird: resize 35%; mirror
bag of ornaments: resize 50%
bow 6: resize 40%
flower 3: resize 40%, then 85%
flower 4: resize 40%
glitter stars: resize 95%, duplicate and flip
baubles of choice: resize 30 to 35%
teddy: resize 30%
reindeer 2: resize 35%
reindeer 3: resize 35%, then 85%

Drop shadow all elements.

Activate your background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag, add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  If you'd like to save without animating, save as a jpg or png now.  If you wish to animate your tag, follow these directions:

Make sure Tinsel 1 and Season 1 are both open and the other copies are hidden.  Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and choose Paste As A New Animation.

Back to PSP, hide Tinsel 1 and open Tinsel 2.  Hide Season 1 and open Season 2.

Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged.

Back in AS: Edit > Paste > After Current Frame

Follow the same steps for Tinsel 3 and Season 3.

View > Animation to see your tag in action!

Save as a gif and you're finished, enjoy your new tag!

I'd love to see your results, email me HERE.

Hugs, Carol
