Rest Assured

This tutorial was written by me on July 14th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial was written assuming you have a general knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit by Chichi Designz called "Fairy Tales".  I love fantasy tubes and this kit works perfectly with them!  You can get it at Stargazer Scraps.  Thanks so much Cindy!

Tube of choice: I used a fabulous tube by Rachael Tallamy with a valid license.  You can purchase her tubes from Up Your Art.

Template of choice: I used a wonderful template (#49) from Melissaz Creationz.

Mask of choice: I used mask #14, also by Melissaz Creationz.

Font of choice: I used Chivalry Decorative, a pay font.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template, duplicate and close the original.

Delete the melissaz creationz and floral brushes layers.

Change the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Activate the white background layer and flood fill the blank area with white.

Activate the lg circle layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Open a paper of choice, resize 65%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, invert the selection and tap delete.  Delete the original layer.  Do not deselect.

Copy the image that comes with the tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85% and arrange as desired within the selection (see my tag for reference).  Tap delete and deselect.  Change the blend mode to Overlay.  Merge layer down.  Apply a drop shadow of choice; I used H&V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 12.  I used this drop shadow for all template layers.

Follow the same steps for the smaller circle layer, resizing the image 70%.

Activate the rectangle layer, select all, float and defloat.  Open a paper of choice and resize 65%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, invert the selection and tap delete.  Open the DiamondRain element and resize 80%.  Arrange on top of the paper layer and tap delete.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply drop shadow of choice; I used H&V 2, Opacity 50, Blur 8.  I used this drop shadow for all elements unless otherwise noted.

Change the foreground colour to #31979f and the background to #346294.  Change the foreground to Gradient and click Edit to open the gradient editor.

Click "New" and type a name for your new gradient.  Here's what you'll be looking at:

You'll know which marker is active as it will have a black point instead of a white point.  Click around the mid point of the gradient bar to add another marker, which will now be the active one.

Click the button beside "Back" to change your new marker to the background colour as shown above.

Now click the marker at the far right to activate it.  Click the button beside "Custom" and change the colour to #afbad8.  You should now have this:

Click Close and answer yes to save the changes.  Change the gradient settings to this:

Activate the rectangle frame layer.  Select all, float and defloat.  Add a new raster layer and flood fill with the gradient.  Deselect and delete the original layer.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer.

Add your elements and apply drop shadow, I used:

Flowers2: resize 50%, then 85%.  Duplicate and mirror, erase any excess and merge these two layers together.
BlossomTree: resize 70%
Dove: resize 25%, then 85%
Branch: resize 50%, then 90%; free rotate 55 degrees right
FlowerString: resize 55%
Flowers1: resize 40%
Butterflies: resize 40%, then 70%
Butterfly: resize 15%, then 80%; free rotate 15 degrees right
Moon: resize 50%
Clouds1: resize 80%; apply light drop shadow, I used H&V 0, Opacity 25, Blur 12

Hide the background layer and merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 85%.  Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into selection, deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust the size of the mask to your satisfaction.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a jpeg or png and you're finished!  Thanks for trying my tutorial!

I'd love to see your results so I can show them off!  Email me!
