That Special Day

This tutorial was written by me on June 19th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an adorable kit by Bev of Horseplay's Pasture Designs called "That Special Day".  I LOVE this kit, it has so many wonderful elements and gorgeous papers!  It's available at Lollipops & Gumdrops.  For additional purchase information, please visit Bev's blog.  Thanks so much Bev!

2 tubes of choice: I used two adorable tubes by Suzanne Woolcott AKA Gorjuss.  You can purchase her wonderful art at her store HERE.

Mask of choice: I used one of Vix's masks, #431.  Download from her blog HERE.

Font of choice: I used KidzOnlyToo SSK, HERE.

Drop shadow used throughout, unless otherwise noted: H&V 2, Opacity 52, Blur 10

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 800 x 700, white background.

From the kit, open Element 40 and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.

Using the magic wand, click inside the frame.  Expand the selection by 4.  Open a paper of choice and resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move below the frame.  Invert the selection and tap delete.

Copy and paste your close-up tube as a new layer.  If you're using the same tube as I did, resize 75%.  Duplicate and move the copy above the frame.  Using the eraser, remove the portion of the top tube that covers the bottom part of the frame.  Do the same for the bottom tube, carefully removing the portion that shows beneath the frame.  Apply drop shadow to the bottom tube only.

Drop shadow the frame, I used H&V 0, Opacity 50, Blur 15.

Open Element 19 and resize 70%, copy and paste as a new layer, move to the left side of the frame.

Copy and paste your other tube as a new layer.  If you're using the same tube I did, resize 50%.  Arrange where you want in front of the pony.  Duplicate the pony and move the copy above the tube.  Using the eraser, carefully erase parts of the pony that cover your tube, but be careful when working around his head, don't erase the parts that cover your tube.  :-)  This makes it appear as if his head is in front of the little girl.  Drop shadow the bottom (original) only!

Open Element 56 and resize 25%.  Place on top of your main tube, so it looks like she's wearing the party hat.  Like this:

Zoom in and using the freehand selection tool with feather set to 1, carefully draw a selection around the dark pink section of the hat, then tap delete.  You should now have something that looks like this:

Using the raster deform tool, move the hat ever-so-slightly to the right.

Now add your elements and arrange as desired; I used:

1: resize 50%
3: resize 55%
4: resize 60%
8: resize 30%
9 & 10: resize each 30%
15: resize 25%; free rotate 15 degrees left, sharpen
16: resize 25%; free rotate 15 degrees right, sharpen
24 to 27: resize each 10%
30: resize 30%
42: resize 40%
43: resize 35%
46: resize 60%
53: resize 30%, then 80%

Drop shadow all elements.  Hide the background layer and merge visible.

Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection; deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag, add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a jpeg or png and you're finished!  Thanks for trying my tutorial!

I'd love to see your results, email me!  :-)

Hugs, Carol
