Mod Mardi Gras

This tutorial was written by me on April 16th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit called "Mod Mardi Gras" by Karin of Karin Kreates Scrapz.  I loved working with this kit, so many fun elements and beautiful papers!  You can get it at I Got Lucky Skraps.  Thanks so much Karin!

Tube of choice: I used the wonderful art of Susan Justice (McKivergan) with a valid license.  If you'd like to use the same tube, you can get it at Up Your Art.

Mask of choice: I used mask #47 by Weescotslass.

Font of choice: I used Mardi Gras Regular, which is a pay font.  You can probably do a search and find one like it though.  :-)

Drop shadow used throughout: H&V 2, Opacity 50, Blur 8.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 750 x 750, white background.

From the kit, open Frame04 and resize 55%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move slightly to the left.

Using the freehand selection tool, draw a selection around the frame, like this:

Open a paper of choice, resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move below the frame.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Open Streamer04, resize 35%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Arrange on the left side, inside the frame.  Duplicate and move the duplicate to the right, arrange as desired.  Tap delete to remove the excess.  Do not deselect.

Open Streamer06, resize 25%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Arrange on the left side, duplicate and move the copy to the right, place as you like.  Tap delete.  Deselect.

Open FancyMask03, resize 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Free rotate 45 degrees left.  Arrange in the middle of the frame.

Copy and paste the tube as a new layer and move to the right side of the frame.

Open BeadNecklace07, resize 20%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, mirror.  Free rotate 17 degrees left.  Arrange on the top left side of the frame.  Using the freehand selection tool, draw a selection around the outside of the frame, like this:

Using the eraser, remove the excess so you're left with this:

Open BeadNecklace03 and resize 20%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, mirror.  Move below the first necklace layer.  Free rotate 17 degrees left and arrange (see my tag for placement).  Hide the first necklace layer to make it easier to work on this one.

Using the freehand selection tool, draw a selection around the top frame only, like this:

Use the eraser to remove the excess, so you're left with this:

Now add your other elements.  I used:

Brad03: resize 50%; duplicate and resize 85%; duplicate and mirror.
FabFlower04: resize 30%
FabFlower03: resize 25%; duplicate and mirror.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of everything, then hide the background layer and merge visible.  Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Selections > Select All.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.

Crop and resize your tag.  Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a jpeg or png.  You're finished, I hope you enjoy your new tag!

I'd love to see what you create, email me.  :-)

Hugs, Carol
