Ocean Memories

This tutorial was written by me on March 17th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used an AWESOME kit by Noelle of Lady Noelle's Buttons & Bows Scraps called "Beach Treasures".  This kit is like a warm summer breeze, filled with seaside elements and lovely papers, what a wonderful time I had creating this tag!  You can get it from Aussie Scraps.  Thanks Noelle!

Tube & Image of choice: I used the wonderful artwork of Gary George.  If you wish to use the same tube/image, you must purchase a license to do so.  His work is available from Up Your Art.  I love it when the original images are included with the tubes!  :-)

Mask of choice: I used mask #80 by Designs by Vaybs.

Template of choice: I used template #47 from Sara's Scraps.

Font of choice: I used Gaeilege 1, HERE.

~~ Remember to save often! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete the copyright layer.  Resize all layers 85%, then change the canvas size to 750 x 650.  Add a new raster layer, flood fill with white and send to the bottom.

Activate rectangle 1, select all, float, defloat.  Copy and paste a paper of choice as a new layer, resize 80% and arrange within the selection.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Deselect and delete the original layer.  Apply a drop shadow, I used H&V 0, Opacity 45, Blur 12.

Repeat the same steps for these layers: Circle, Rectangle 2 and Rectangle 3.

Activate the frame layer and use your color replacer tool to change the white frame to #c5b0bf.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise > select Gaussian, 35%, Monochrome checked.  Apply the same drop shadow as above.

Activate the frame background layer.  Select all, float, defloat.  Modify and expand the selection by 1.  Copy and paste the image that comes with your tube into the selection.  Deselect.

Effects > Photo Effects > Film and Filters > Film looks: Choose Enhanced Reds; Creative Filters: Choose Cooling, do not change the Density setting.  Click OK.  Reduce the opacity of this layer 85%.

Copy and paste your main tube as a new layer, and move to the left side of the tag.  Apply a drop shadow of choice.

Now add your elements.  I used:

envelope with vellum paper: resize 35%; free rotate 15 degrees left.
fern: resize 50%
flower 01: resize 20%, then 80%
ribbon 03: resize 40%
flower 02: resize 15%
double hearts 02: resize 40%
stardust 02: resize 60%, flip and mirror.  Add a light drop shadow: H&V 2, Opacity 25, Blur 8.
basket of shells: resize 50%
wordart 03: resize 55%

Drop shadow all other elements: H&V 2, Opacity 45, Blur 8.

Hide the background layer and merge visible.

Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection, deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to adjust the mask size and placement to your satisfaction.  Crop your tag to get rid of any excess canvas.

Add your name.  I used Gaeilge 1, size 65, stroke 1.  Foreground #e7e7e7 and background #003d7a.  Add an inner bevel using these settings:

Apply the same drop shadow you used for the elements.  Resize your tag to your preference and save as a png or jpeg.  You're all finished!

I'd love to see your results, email me!

Hugs, Carol
