Amethyst Fantasy

This tutorial was written by me on January 11th, 2011 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP Version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good understanding of PSP, its tools and functions.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit by A Taggers Scrap called "Amethyst Folly".  If you love purple like I do, this is the kit for you!  Beautiful papers and many gorgeous elements are included, lots of variety!  It took me a while to make this tag because I kept seeing new possibilities and wanted to go so many different ways with it.  LOL!  Needless to say, I had a wonderful time creating this tag!  You can get it from Sophisti-Scraps.  Thanks for this beautiful kit Jo!

Tube of choice: I used the gorgeous fantasy art of Renee Biertempfel.  Renee was with CILM when I purchased this tube but is now with CDO.  You must purchase a license to use her work.

Template of choice: I used another one of Bev's wonderful templates, #128.  Download from her blog HERE.  Thanks for sharing these Bev!

Mask of choice: I used #166 by Weescotslass.

Font of choice: I used Mon Amour Script Alt

~~ Let's begin! ~~

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete the Credit and Dotted Circles layers.  Change the canvas size to 750 x 750.  Activate the background layer and flood fill the blank areas with white.

Activate Rectangle 1 layer.  Select all, float, defloat.  Open a paper of choice from the kit, resize 70%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Deselect.  Add noise: Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise > Random, 28%, Monochrome checked.  Repeat these steps for Center, Left and Right Rectangle layers.  Delete the original layers as you go.

Activate Right Rectangle A.  Select all, float, defloat.  Copy and paste a paper of choice as a new layer, resize 70%.  Invert the selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, if you're using the same tube, resize 80%.  Arrange within the selection and tap delete to remove the excess.  Change the blend mode to Luminance and reduce the opacity to 65%.  Deselect and merge down, delete the original layer.  Repeat these steps for Left Rectangle A layer, mirroring the tube this time.

Activate Center Rec A.  Select all, float, defloat.  Copy and paste a paper of choice as a new layer, resize 70%.  Invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Open diamondshower and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, arrange within the selection.  Tap delete to remove the excess and deselect.  Apply a drop shadow, I used H&V 2, Opacity 65, Blur 5.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer.

Activate the Hearts 1 layer.  Change the foreground colour to #bf4fb2 and the background to black.  Activate the colour replacer tool and change the settings to - Size: 999, Hardness: 100,
Step: 10, Density: 100, Rotation: 0, Tolerance: 75.  Left click in the center of your tag to change the colour of the black hearts.

Add an inner bevel with the following settings:

Apply a drop shadow, I used H&V 2, Opacity 65, Blur 8 (I used this for all elements)

Repeat for Hearts 2 layer.

Add your elements.  I used:

Button 2: resize 45% (for the middle two) & 35% for the outside ones.
Butterfly: resize 30%, duplicate and resize 85%
Flowers 1 & 5: Resize 20%, then 80%
Flower 8: resize 10%
Leaf 4: resize 15%, then 75%
Leafribbon5: resize 60%.  Use the rectangle selection tool to carefully draw a selection around the part that covers the center frame.  Tap delete to remove it and deselect.
Light 1: resize 25%
Multiheart 1: resize 25%
Sequinspill: resize 50%, duplicate and mirror.  Merge down and arrange at the top of the tag.  Move this layer just above the background layer.  Duplicate and flip.  Merge down again and resize the merged layer 93%.

Ensure you're happy with the placement of everything, then hide the background layer and merge visible.  Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all, copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Deselect and apply the mask.  Merge mask group. Use the raster deform tool to adjust the mask to your satisfaction.

Crop and resize your tag, add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a jpg or png and you're finished!

I'd love to see your results, email me!

Hugs, Carol
