Waiting For Winter (PTU)

(Click on tag to see full-size image)

Waiting For Winter

This tutorial was written by me on November 29th, 2010 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP Version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used one of Clarey's amazing kits, called "Winter Bliss".  I've loved Clarey's kits for years and every time I get another one, I'm reminded why.  They're so darn much fun to play with!!  :-D  You can get this wonderful kit from her store HERE.  Thanks so much Clarey!

Tube of choice: I used a wonderful tube by Unholy Vault Designs.  If you wish to use the same tube, you must purchase a license from MPT.

Mask of choice: I used one of Vaybs awesome Christmas masks, #7.  Download from her blog HERE.

Font of choice: I used Miss Fajardose

Let's begin!

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 750 x 750, white background.

From the kit, open rectangleframe2 and resize 95%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.

Using the magic wand, click inside the frame and expand the selection by 5.  Open a paper of choice from the kit, copy and paste as a new layer.  Move below the frame, invert selection and tap delete.  Do not deselect.

Open crystalstrands and resize 60%.  Copy and paste as a new layer above the paper layer and below the frame.  Tap delete.  Deselect and sharpen.  Place all other layers within the frame below the crystal strands layer.

Open snowflaketree2: resize 60% and place on the far left side, within the frame.

Copy and paste frostyswirl, resize 60% and reduce the opacity to 68.

Add some of the snowdust layers, resizing each by approximately 60%.  Move these below the tree.

Open the 3 baubles, then resize one 50%, the second 45% and the third 40%.  Free rotate one of them 8 degrees left and another one 8 degrees right.  Sharpen after you rotate.  Arrange as seen in my tag then merge these three layers together.  Resize the merged layer 75% and place on the top left side of the frame.

Open hangingribbon1 and resize 80%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and duplicate.  Move the original below the merged baubles and leave the copy above.  Using the eraser on the top (copy) layer, remove the bits of ribbon covering some of the baubles so it looks like the ribbon is winding around them (see my tag for reference).  Drop shadow the bottom (original) layer only.

Add the rest of the elements:

frostedfoliage1: resize 60%; free rotate left 90 degrees.
flower1: resize 30%

Add a drop shadow of choice to all elements.  I used H&V 2, Opacity 55, Blur 8

Make sure you're happy with the placement of all elements, then hide the background layer and merge visible.  Resize the merged layer 90%

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer and arrange on the far right of the frame, so it looks like she's sitting there.  Drop shadow.

Activate the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Use the raster deform tool to change the size to your satisfaction.

Crop and resize your tag then add your name and all applicable copyright and license info.  Save your tag and you're done!  Enjoy it!

Apply a drop shadow of choice to all elements: I used H&V 2, Opacity 57, Blur 7

Copy and paste your main tube as a new layer, move to the right side of the frame.  Drop shadow.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of everything, then hide your background layer and merge visible.

Unhide the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all, copy and paste a paper of choice into the selection.  Deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Resize by 90%, or use the raster deform tool to resize to your satisfaction.

Crop and resize your tag.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save your tag and you're all finished!

Hide this layer and open all others.  Merge visible.  You should now have a layer that looks like this:

Rename this layer "frame"

Activate the background layer, right click on the tag and copy.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and choose "Paste As A New Animation".

Open the snow animation I provided.  Click Animation > Resize Animation > Resize 135%, bicubic.  Note that there are 20 frames in this animation, we have to make your new tag 20 frames as well.

Activate your new tag, right click and choose "Duplicate Selected".  Continue doing this until you have 20 frames.  Edit > Select All.

Activate the snow animation again.  Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy.

Activate your tag; Edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame.  Carefully arrange the snow on top of the background scene you created.  When you're happy, left click to place.  View > Animation to check your placement.  If you're unhappy with the result, simply click undo and try again.

Back to PSP, add your name and all applicable copyright and license info.  Hide the background layer, leaving the frame layer, your name and license layers visible.  Right click on the tag and choose Copy Merged.

Back in AS, right click on the workspace and choose Paste As A New Animation.  Edit > Copy.  Minimize or delete this now, you won't need it again.

In the top toolbar, click on the propagate paste button, shown here:

Make sure all the frames of your new tag are selected.  Edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame.  Carefully arrange the frame over the paper layer.  Left click to place.

View > Animation to check your work.

Animation > Resize Animation.  I resized 80%, bicubic resample.

Save as a gif and you're all finished!  I hope you enjoy your new tag!
