I'm Dreaming ...

This tutorial was written by me on December 5th, 2010 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP Version used: X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: Once again, I'm using the gorgeous kit called "Holiday Shimmer" by Gemini Creationz.  You can get this incredible kit from Stargazer Scraps.  Thank you again Vicki!

Tube of choice: I'm using the wonderful art of Anna Marine with a valid license.  You can purchase her tubes from CILM until December 31st.

Mask of choice: I used a mask by Vaybs, #80.  Download from her blog HERE.

Plug-ins used: VM Natural, Sparkles, available HERE (scroll down).  Eye Candy 5 Texture Noise & Gradient Glow.

Font of choice: I used Lavishly Yours, a pay font.

Ready?  Let's make a new tag!

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open a new image, 750 x 750, white background.

Add a new raster layer, select all.

From the kit, open paper 08, copy and paste into the selection and deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Reduce the opacity to 90.

Open lightsparkles and resize 60%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and arrange on the right side of the masked layer.  Duplicate and mirror.  Duplicate again and move into the center to fill in the blank area.  Merge these three layers together.

Open branch and resize 90%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Apply a drop shadow of choice; I used H&V 2, Opacity 75, Blur 8.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, move beneath the branch.  Use your freehand selection tool to draw a selection around the bottom part of the tube that you can see beneath the branch.  Tap delete.  Apply drop shadow.

Open vine and resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, free rotate right 30 degrees.  Arrange over the left branch, duplicate, mirror and arrange over the right branch.  Erase any excess.

Open lights, resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, free rotate 90 degrees right.  Arrange on top of the left branch.  Duplicate and mirror, arrange on the right branch and use the eraser tool to remove the excess.  Merge down and apply drop shadow.  Duplicate the merged layer three times for a total of 4.  Rename Lights 1, Lights 2, Lights 3 and Lights 4.  Hide all but Lights 1.

Make sure Lights 1 is the active layer.  Using the magic wand with Mode set to Add, Match Mode set to RGB Value, Tolerance set to 25, click on each one of the lights (you will have to click two or three times to select the whole light).  Apply Texture Noise using these settings:

Hide Lights 1, unhide and activate Lights 2.  Apply Texture Noise using the same settings, but click the Random Seed button once (or until you see something you like).  Follow these directions for Lights 3 and 4.  Deselect.

Open xmastree and resize 60%, then 95%.  Copy and paste as a new layer above the lightsparkles layer.  Duplicate, mirror and resize 85%.  Arrange the trees as shown in my tag.  Drop shadow and merge these two layers.

Decorate your trees using bow01: resize 15%, then 85% and ornaments of your choice: resize 15%, then 60%.  Sharpen after resizing.  Drop shadow.

When your trees are decorated to your satisfaction, hide all other layers but the trees and their decorations and merge visible.  Unhide the hidden layers and duplicate the trees layer three times for a total of four.  Rename Trees 1, Trees 2, Trees 3 and Trees 4.

Make sure Trees 1 is open and active and hide Trees 2, 3, and 4.

Apply VM Natural, Sparkles using these settings:

Max Size: 25
Red, Green, Blue: 255
Rnd Color On/Off: 255
Random Seed: 100

Click OK.

Hide Trees 1, open and activate Trees 2.  Apply the Sparkles filter again, changing the Random Seed but leaving all other settings as is.  Do the same for Trees 3 and Trees 4.

Add the other elements to your tag, apply drop shadow after each addition:

flower01 and 02: resize 20%, then another 70 - 75%.
poinsettias: resize 20%, then 70%
sleigh: resize 30%, then 80%.  Free rotate 30 degrees left; sharpen
deer: resize 20%, then 80%.  Mirror; free rotate 30 degrees left; sharpen

Type a saying if you wish, I typed "I'm Dreaming..."

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Now let's animate!

Make sure Lights 1 and Trees 1 is open and Lights/Trees 2, 3 and 4 are hidden.  Right click on your tag and choose copy merged.

Open Animation Shop.

Right click on the workspace and choose "Paste as a new animation".

Back in PSP, hide Lights 1 and Trees 1 and open Lights 2 and Trees 2.  Right click and copy merged.

Back in AS, right click on the tag and choose Paste > After Current Frame.

Continue in this manner for Lights/Trees 3 and 4.  You should now have 4 frames in your animation.

Edit > Select All.  Animation > Frame Properties > change to 25.

View > Animation to see your tag in action!

Animation > Resize Animation > change to a size you prefer, choosing Bicubic resample in the Resize Type drop-down menu.  Now save your tag as a gif and you're all finished!

Thanks for trying my tutorial, I hope you enjoy your new tag!

Hugs, Carol
