Don't Wait Til Christmas

This tutorial was written by me on December 2nd, 2010 and is the result of my own ideas.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit by Kimmie's Kreations called "Winter Romance".  Wow, is this kit beautiful!  Beautiful papers and a multitude of wonderful elements and I love the colour palette!  Lots of options for beautiful winter tags!  You can get it at I Got Lucky Skraps.  Thanks for this lovely kit Kimmie!

Template of choice: I used a wonderful Christmas template (#303) by Missy of Divine Intentionz.  Download from her blog HERE.

Tube of choice: I'm using the beautiful pinup art of Jennifer Janesko with a valid license.  Her tubes are available from CILM until December 31st.

Mask of choice: I used a mask by Weescotslass, #284.  Download from her blog, HERE.

Plug-in used: DSB Flux, Bright Noise.

Font of choice: I used Nautigal.

Let's begin!

Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.

Open the template, duplicate and close the original.

Delete the credit layer and change the canvas size to 900 x 750.  Activate the background layer and flood fill the blank spaces with white.  I like to have a large workspace when I'm making a tag and then resize later.  If you'd prefer to start with a smaller canvas, you'll have to adjust the resizing instructions accordingly.

Activate the oval layer, select all, float, defloat.  Copy and paste a paper of choice as a new layer, invert the selection and tap delete.  Delete the original layer.  Continue in this manner for the rectangle and rectangle 2 layers.

Activate the frame layer and using the magic wand, click inside the frame.  Expand the selection by 4.  Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, move below the frame.  Resize as desired (I resized 90%).  If you're using the same tube I did, free rotate right 12 degrees.  Invert selection and tap delete, deselect.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, I used H: 0, V: -2, Opacity 65, Blur 8.

Apply a drop shadow of choice to all the template layers, I used H&V 0, Opacity 65, Blur 10.

Activate the wordart by Missy layer.  Select the color replacer tool, shown below:

Adjust the settings: Size: 999, Hardness: 100, Step: 10, Density: 100, Thickness: 100, Rotation: 0, Tolerance: 75.  Set the foreground to color #bbbfc8 and the background color to #e44f8f.  Make sure you're working on the wordart layer.  Left click in the center of the tag to change the color of the wordart from pink to light blue/grey.  Apply a drop shadow of choice, I used H&V 2, Opacity 65, Blur 8.

Activate the glittered rectangle layer, duplicate twice for a total of 3.  Rename Glitter 1, Glitter 2 and Glitter 3.  Hide Glitter 2 and 3 and apply the Bright Noise filter to Glitter 1 using these settings: Intensity: 29, Mix button selected.  Click OK.

Activate Glitter 2 and apply the plug-in again using the same settings, only this time click the Mix button twice.  Do the same for Glitter 3, clicking the Mix button 3 times.

Activate the frame layer and duplicate twice, renaming Frame 1, 2 and 3.  Follow the instructions above to apply the bright noise filter to each of the frames.

Add your elements:

lantern1: resize 50%
ChristmasFlower1: do not resize.  Duplicate and free rotate 70 degrees left.  Duplicate again and free rotate 30 degrees left.  Arrange as shown in my tag.
ribbonpuddle5: resize 50%
ornaments: resize each 20%, free rotate 20 degrees left or right
box1: resize 50%
box5: resize 50%, then 85%
DiamondSwirl: do not resize, free rotate 15 degrees left.  Duplicate and flip.
lilly5: resize 80% twice

Apply a drop shadow of choice to all elements.

Activate the background layer and add a new raster layer.  Select all, copy and paste a paper of choice into selection.  Deselect.  Apply the mask and merge the mask group.  Resize the mask layer 85% and use the raster deform tool to adjust as desired.

Crop and resize your tag and add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Let's animate!

Make sure Glitter 1 and Frame 1 is open and hide Glitter 2 & 3 and Frame 2 & 3.  Right click on your tag and choose Copy Merged.

Open Animation Shop and right click on the workspace.  Choose Paste As A New Animation.

Back to PSP, hide Glitter 1 and open Glitter 2; hide Frame 1 and open Frame 2.  Right click and copy merged.

Back in AS, right click on the tag and choose Paste > After Current Frame.

Repeat these steps for Glitter 3 and Frame 3.  You should now have 3 frames in your animation.

View > Animation to check the effect.  Now save as a gif and you're done!

Thanks for trying my tutorial!

Hugs, Carol
