This tutorial was written by me on November 22nd, 2010 and is the result of my own ideas. Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental and unintentional.
PSP Version used: X2, but should work in other versions.
This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.
Scrap kit of choice: I used a gorgeous kit called "Winter's Chill" by Dianna of Digicats (& Dogs). This is a kit I know I'll use again and again as it's filled with so many beautiful papers and elements. You can purchase it at Stargazer Scraps. Thanks for this beautiful kit Dianna!
Tube of choice: I used the wonderful art of Unholy Vault Designs with a valid license. If you wish to use the same image, you must purchase a license from MPT.
Mask of choice: I used one of Vaybs awesome Christmas masks, #12. Download from her blog HERE.
Font of choice: I used Lavishly Yours
Snow animation, download HERE. If this is your animation, please let me know so I can give proper credit or remove it, thanks!
Let's make a tag!
Open a new image 800 x 700, white background.
From the kit, open Frame01 and resize 80%. Copy and paste as a new layer, free rotate right 90 degrees. Move slightly to the left.
Using the magic wand, click inside the frame and expand the selection by 5. Open a paper of choice, resize as desired, copy and paste as a new layer. Invert the selection and tap delete, move below the frame. Do no deselect.
Open Snow Drift, resize 50%. Copy and paste as a new layer, position at the bottom of the frame. Tap delete.
Open Bare Trees, resize 50%. Copy and paste as a new layer and position (see my tag as reference). Tap delete.
Open Icicles, resize 50%. Copy and paste as a new layer, move to the top of the frame. Tap delete. Deselect.
Use your magic wand to click inside the frame again, invert, but do not expand the selection. Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, resize as desired (I resized 90%). Use your eraser to get rid of the bits you don't want. Deselect.
Adjust the Hue and Saturation of the tube; Hue - 168, Saturation - 145.
Add a drop shadow of choice to the tube, frame, snow drift, trees and icicles.
Add your other elements:
Winter Tree02: Resize 70%
Ornament 01 & 04: Resize 10%, then 85%
Holiday Bow: Resize 10%, then 50%
Poinsettia: Resize 40%, duplicate and mirror. Merge down, duplicate the merged layer and flip. Merge down once again.
Ribbon03: Resize 50%
Silver Pine Cone01: Resize 20%, mirror
Silver Pine Cone02: Resize 15%, duplicate and mirror
Silver Star03: Resize 22%
Add a drop shadow of choice to all elements.
Activate the background layer and add a new raster layer. Selections > Select All.
Copy a paper of choice and paste into the selection. Deselect. Apply the mask and merge the mask layer. Use the raster deform tool to adjust the sides and top of the mask to your satisfaction.
Hide the following layers: tube, icicles, frame and all elements above. The background layer, mask, paper, tree, star and ornaments should be all that's visible. Merge visible and rename this layer "background". You should have something that looks like this:
Hide this layer and open all others. Merge visible. You should now have a layer that looks like this:
Rename this layer "frame"
Activate the background layer, right click on the tag and copy.
Open Animation Shop.
Right click on the workspace and choose "Paste As A New Animation".
Open the snow animation I provided. Click Animation > Resize Animation > Resize 135%, bicubic. Note that there are 20 frames in this animation, we have to make your new tag 20 frames as well.
Activate your new tag, right click and choose "Duplicate Selected". Continue doing this until you have 20 frames. Edit > Select All.
Activate the snow animation again. Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy.
Activate your tag; Edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame. Carefully arrange the snow on top of the background scene you created. When you're happy, left click to place. View > Animation to check your placement. If you're unhappy with the result, simply click undo and try again.
Back to PSP, add your name and all applicable copyright and license info. Hide the background layer, leaving the frame layer, your name and license layers visible. Right click on the tag and choose Copy Merged.
Back in AS, right click on the workspace and choose Paste As A New Animation. Edit > Copy. Minimize or delete this now, you won't need it again.
In the top toolbar, click on the propagate paste button, shown here:
Make sure all the frames of your new tag are selected. Edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame. Carefully arrange the frame over the paper layer. Left click to place.
View > Animation to check your work.
Animation > Resize Animation. I resized 80%, bicubic resample.
Save as a gif and you're all finished! I hope you enjoy your new tag!
