Let Freedom Ring
This tutorial was written by me on June 26th, 2010 and is a product of my own imagination and ideas. Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.
This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation Shop.
Scrap kit of choice: I'm using a fabulous kit by Kittie's Sinful Designz called "Americana". You can get it HERE or HERE.
Tube of choice: I'm using the incredible pinup art of Keith Garvey with a valid license. You can purchase his tubes at MPT.
Template of choice: I used one of Marcia's incredible templates which you can download from her blog, Babe's Designz. I used template #46.
Mask of choice: I used Mask 5 by Witchy's Heart. Download from her blog HERE
Plug-ins needed: Eye Candy Impact (Gradient Glow) for your name and Textures (Texture Noise) for the fireworks animation.
Fireworks graphic: Download HERE
Font of choice: I used Whisper
Drop shadow used throughout: H&V 2, Opacity 58, Blur 7
~~~~~ Now grab a beverage of choice and let's make a new tag! ;-) ~~~~~
Place the mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of your choice.
Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original. Delete the copyright layer. Change the canvas size to 750 x 750. I like to have lots of room to work, you can resize your tag later.
Activate the circle layer. Selections > Select All > Selections > Float > Selections > Defloat. Select a paper from the kit and resize 70% twice. Copy and paste as a new layer. Selections > Invert > Delete. Delete the circle layer. Drop shadow the paper layer. Do the same for the rectangles layer (resize 70% once).
Activate the stars layer and change the colour of random stars to red, white and blue. For detailed instructions on how to use this tool, read the directions in my Choco-Love tutorial. Use this tool to change the colour of the large dots and dots circle layers as well.
Activate the circle layer. Copy and paste the fireworks graphic as a new layer. Arrange as desired. Duplicate this layer 3 times for a total of 4. Hide the three copies and make the original the active layer.
Apply Eye Candy Texture: Texture Noise with these settings: Under the Settings tab, choose Dot Noise. Under the Basics tab, change the settings to this:
Hide the original layer and unhide the first copy. Apply Texture Noise using the same settings, but hit the Random Seed button once. Continue this way for the two remaining copies.
Open Border 1, copy and paste as a new layer, move to just above the rectangles layer. Use the raster deform tool to stretch it lengthwise and move the top and bottom in a bit to make it fit the bottom rectangle. Once you're happy, add a drop shadow, duplicate and flip the image. Arrange on the top rectangle.
Open two of the dragonflies, resize 30%, then 50%. Place where desired and drop shadow.
Open Button 4, resize 30%, then 85%. Place on the right side of the circle, about half way down. Drop shadow and duplicate, move the copy over to the left side of the circle. Duplicate again and move to the bottom (see my tag for placement).
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, apply drop shadow.
Using the alpha that comes with the kit, create a saying at the bottom. I wrote "Let Freedom Ring". I resized 20% for capital letters and 15% for the rest. Use your grid tool to help you line everything up correctly. Merge all the letter layers together and drop shadow.
Open Sparkled Stars, copy and paste as a new layer. Move this layer below the text layer and arrange slightly below. Duplicate, mirror and flip, arrange this layer slightly above the text (see my tag).
Activate the background layer and add a new raster layer. Flood fill with a colour that compliments the kit, I used #cc0300. Apply the mask. In the layers palette, right click on the mask and choose Merge > Merge Group. Resize the mask layer 80% and lower the opacity to 70%.
Hide your background layer and activate the crop tool. Click the merged opaque button on the far right of the top tool menu and click the green check mark.
Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.
~~~~~ Let's Animate! ~~~~~
Open Animation Shop.
In PSP, make sure the original fireworks layer is open and the three copies are hidden. Right click on the tag and choose Copy Merged.
In Animation Shop, right click on the workspace and choose Paste As New Animation.
Back in PSP, hide the original fireworks layer and unhide the first copy. Right click and copy merged again.
In AS, right click the tag and choose Paste > After Current Frame.
Continue in this manner until you have 4 frames.
Now click View > Animation to see your tag in action!
Save as a gif and you're done!
Thanks for trying my tutorial, I'd love to hear from you if you try it! :-)
