Garv's Sk8tr Grrl

This tutorial was written by me on May 16th, 2010.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Supplies Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used Garv's Board Sk8tr by Missy of Scraps With Attitude which can be purchased from Dazzling Scraps.

Template: I used Template 13 by Babe's Designz

Tube of choice: I used the incredible pinup art of Keith Garvey with a valid license.  You can purchase his tubes from MPT.

Mask of choice

Font of choice: I used Ocalla Hand BTN

Plug-in used: Eye Candy Impact, Gradient Glow.  Optional, used for name only.

Ready?  Let's make a new tag!

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.

Image > Canvas Size > change to 650 x 650.  Delete the copyright layer.

Make the left rectangle layer active.  Selections > Select All > Selections > Float > Selections > Defloat.  Open a paper of choice from the kit, copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize as desired.  Selections > Invert > Delete.  Selections > Select None.  Delete the original layer and add a drop shadow to the paper layer.  I used H&V 0, Opacity 69, Blur 8.

Continue in this manner for the remaining layers.  Do not drop shadow the frames yet!

Working on the frames layer and using your magic wand with the Mode set to Add (Shift), Match Mode set to None, Feather set to 0, Contiguous and Anti-alias checked and Outside selected from the drop down menu, click inside each of the frames.  Selections > Modify > Expand > expand by 3.  Copy and paste a paper of choice, resize as desired, invert the selection and delete.  Move this layer below the frames.  Do not deselect.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, move into the left frame.  Resize and arrange as desired, hit delete to remove the excess.  Selections > Select None.  Add a drop shadow (I used H&V 2, Opacity 60, Blur 5) and change the blend mode to Darken.  Reduce the opacity to 70%.  Duplicate and mirror.  Arrange in the right frame.  Leave the center frame empty.  Drop shadow the frames.

Paste your tube as a new layer (it should still be on your clipboard).  Resize as desired (I resized 85%) and place in the center of the tag.  Add a drop shadow.

Open flower pendant 3, resize 30%.  Copy and paste as a new layer and move to the bottom of the frame on the left side.  Add a drop shadow, duplicate and mirror.  Arrange on the right side of the tag.

Open diamond heart 1 & 3, resize 15%, then 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move to the right side of your frame and place where desired.  Image > Free Rotate > Rotate right 25 degrees.  Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

Open flower 1 & 3, resize 30%, then 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, place at the bottom of the tube and add a drop shadow.  Do the same with the other flower.  Duplicate one of them and arrange (see my tag for placement).  Add drop shadow.

Open two of the butterflies.  Resize 15%, then 85%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, place as desired.  Drop shadow.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of all layers, then hide your background layer and merge visible.

Unhide background layer and add a new raster layer.  Selections > Select All.  Copy and paste a paper of choice into selection.  Selections > Select None.

Apply a mask using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert transparency unchecked.  In layers palette, right click mask and choose Merge > Merge Group.

Add your name and apply the Gradient Glow if desired.  Add all applicable copyright and license information.  Resize as desired.  Save your tag as a png or jpg and you're done!  Thank you for trying my tutorial, I hope you enjoy your new tag.

Hugs, Carol
