Marissa (PTU)

(Click on tag to see full-size version)

This tutorial was written by me on November 7th, 2009.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

This tutorial was created using PSP X2 but should work in any other version.

Tools Needed:

Scrap-kit of choice: I used a PTU kit called "Marissa" by Baby Cakes Scraps.  You can purchase this beautiful kit HERE or HERE.

Mask: "New Eon" by Sabre.  You can download this and other wonderful masks at Sabre's site HERE.  Thanks for sharing your talent with us Sabre!

Tube of choice; I'm using the beautiful art of Cris Ortega.

Font of choice; I'm using a paid font named Mon Amour Script Pro.

Plug-in needed: Eye Candy Impact, Gradient Glow (for name)

Drop shadow used throughout: H & V: 2, Opacity: 50, Blur: 5

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro and it's tools/features.

Ready?  Let's begin!

Save your mask in your PSP masks folder or a folder of you choice.

Open a new Image, 650 x 650, white background.  We'll resize later.

From the kit, open BCS_Square_Frame, copy and paste as a new layer.

Magic Wand: Click inside frame and then go to Selections > Modify > Expand.  Expand by 5.

Open paper of choice, (I used BCS_Paper_One) copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize until you like what you see (I resized 70% twice.)

Selections > Invert > Delete.  Selections > Select None.

Move paper layer below frame.  Drop shadow frame.

Copy and paste your tube as a new layer, resize if necessary.  Duplicate tube and move one below the frame.  Using your eraser tool on the tube above the frame, remove any parts you don't want showing.  Drop shadow the bottom tube only.

Open BCS_Cluster, resize 30%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Zoom in and using your freehand selection tool, carefully draw around the large flower at the top and hit delete.

You should now have something that looks like this:
Place this on the left hand side of your frame, below the top copy of your tube.

Layer > Duplicate  Image > Mirror.  Move the copy below the original and arrange (refer to my tag for placement.)  Duplicate again, Image > Mirror > Image > Flip.  Arrange these three layers until you like what you see, then highlight the top copy.  Layers > Merge > Merge Down twice.  Duplicate your merged layer and Image > Mirror.  Merge down again and duplicate.  Move the original layer below the frame.  Now zoom in and, working on the top copy, use your eraser tool and carefully remove parts of the vine and leaves so it looks like the flowers are twining around the frame.  Apply drop shadow to the bottom copy only.

Open BCS_Bow_Four and resize 30%, then resize 60%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, place at the top center of the frame and drop shadow.  Move below your top tube layer.

Open BCS_Gem and resize 30%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, place in the center of the bow.  Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.  Apply drop shadow.

Highlight background layer, open BCS_Scatter and resize 60%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Place to your satisfaction and drop shadow.

Open BCS_Butterfly_Three, resize 30%, then resize 35%.  Highlight top layer, then copy and paste as a new layer.  Move to the left side of your frame (see my tag for placement) then Image > Free Rotate > Rotate right by 12.  Image > Sharpness > Sharpen More.  Apply drop shadow.

Open BCS_Butterfly_Four, resize 30%, then 35%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, Image > Mirror and place to the right of your frame.  Image > Free Rotate > Rotate left by 12.  Image > Sharpness > Sharpen More.  Apply drop shadow.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of all elements, then hide your background layer and merge visible.

Unhide your background layer and highlight.  Open a paper of choice (I used BCS_Paper_Eight), copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%.  Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask From Disc.  Apply SL-NewEonSabreMask, source luminance, fit to layer and hide all mask selected.  Invert mask unchecked.  In the Layer palette, highlight mask layer, right click and choose Merge Group.  I used my Raster Deform tool to pull the sides of the mask out a bit further, that this is entirely up to you.

Now you can crop your image to a size you like and add your name.  I used Mon Amour Script Pro font, colour black, size 48.  I then added an effect using Eye Candy Impact Gradient Glow with the settings below:
Colour I used: #ddd6a8

Place your name where you want it and apply drop shadow.  Now add the appropriate copyright information and you're finished!

Thank you for trying my tutorial!

Hugs, Carol
