Happy Holly-days (PTU)

(Click on image to see full-size version)

Happy Holly-days

This tutorial was written by me on November 14th, 2009.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2 but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Tools Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a PTU kit called "Holly and Ivy" by Lady Anne's Inzpired Dezigns.  You can purchase this beautiful kit HERE.

Template: #123 by Designz by Ali.  You can find it HERE.

Tube of choice: I'm using the beautiful art of Al Rio with a valid license.  If you want to use the same tube, you can purchase it HERE.

Font of choice: I'm using A&S Christmas Script

Plug-in needed: Eye Candy 4000, Gradient Glow.

Let's get started!

Open the template in PSP, duplicate and close the original.  Delete raster 6, 4 and 2.  Image > Canvas size > change canvas size to 650 x 650 so you'll have room to work.  Add a new raster layer, flood fill with white and move to the bottom.

Highlight raster 1.  Ctrl+A+F to float your selection, Ctrl+Shift+F to defloat.  Choose a paper from your scrap kit, resize if desired, copy and paste as a new layer.  Ctrl+Shift+I to invert selection, hit delete.  Ctrl+D to deselect.

Highlight raster 3.  Ctrl+A+F, Ctrl+Shift+F.  Add a new raster layer.  Choose a colour from your tube or scrap kit (I chose #942c14) and flood fill your selection.  Ctrl+D.  Delete raster 3.

Open HlyNIvy046.  Resize as desired, copy and paste as a new layer below your frame.  Using your magic wand, click inside the frame.  Selections > Modify > Expand > expand by 5.  Selections > Invert > Delete.

Open HlyNIvy002.  Resize, copy and paste as a new layer below your frame.  Repeat the same procedure to get rid of the excess.

Open HlyNIvy012 (or another flower of choice).  Resize as desired, copy and paste as a new layer.  Place on the left side of your frame.  Duplicate and Image > Mirror.  See my tag for placement.

Add your tube, place where you like.

Open HlyNIvy037.  Resize, copy and paste below your tube but above your frame.  Place on right side of frame, duplicate and Image > Mirror.  Duplicate these layers as many times as you wish and arrange behind your tube.  I duplicated the right vine, used free rotate to rotate right 20 degrees, arranged it the way I wanted, then duplicated and mirrored the image.  I then used my eraser to get rid of the bits I didn't want.

Open HlyNIvy011.  Resize, copy and paste as a new layer.  Place on top of your vine.  Duplicate this layer as many times as desired, then resize and mirror a few.  Arrange them how you want on your vines on both sides.

Open HlyNIvy033 and 035.  Resize as desired, copy and paste each as a new layer.  Move these layers down below your frame and just above your background layer.  Flip one.  Arrange these to the left of your tag.  Once you're happy with how they look, merge down, duplicate and mirror.

Add any other elements you wish.  I added HlyNIvy006 but there are plenty of terrific elements to choose from!

Add a drop shadow to all layers.  I used H&V: 2, Opacity: 69, Blur: 5.

Make sure you're happy with the positioning of all layers, then hide your background layer and merge visible.

Using your font of choice, add a saying.  I wrote "Happy Holly-days!".  Apply Eye Candy 4000, Gradient Glow with the following settings:

Under the Basic tab; Glow Width: 3, Soft Corners: 0, Overall Opacity: 100

Under the Color tab: use colour #fdfbae or a colour of your choice.

Apply drop shadow.

Add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.

Resize your tag to a size you like, save as a jpg or png file.

That's it, you're all finished!  Hope you enjoyed my tutorial!

Hugs, Carol
