Joyeux Noel (FTU)

(Click on image to see full-size version)

Joyeux Noel

This tutorial was written by me on November 18th, 2009.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2 but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Tools Needed:

Scrap kit of choice: I used a beautiful FTU kit called "Joyeux Noel" by Bluedream Designs.  You can find it HERE.  Please remember to leave a thank you when you download.  These designers are very generous with their time and talent and saying thanks is all they ask in return.

Tube of choice: I'm using the gorgeous art of Jennifer Janesko with a valid license.  If you wish to use the same tube, you can purchase it from CILM.

Mask: WSL_Mask105, download HERE.  Thanks so much Chelle, for creating and sharing these incredible masks!

Font of choice: I'm using Lavishly Yours, a paid font.

Drop shadow used throughout: H&V: 2, Opacity: 50, Blur: 5 unless otherwise noted.

Ready ... set ... GO!

Open a new image, 700 x 650, white background.

From your scrap kit, open Frame 2.  Resize 85%, copy and paste as a new layer.

Using your freehand selection tool, draw around the frame, like this:
Select a paper from the scrap kit, copy and paste as a new layer.  Selections > Invert > Delete.  Move this layer below your frame.  Do not deselect!

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer, resize as needed.  Place as desired, then hit delete to get rid of any excess.  Selections > Select None.  Highlight your frame layer.

Open Gift 1, 2 and 3.  Copy and paste each as a new layer.  Resize as desired and arrange on the bottom right side of your tag.  Mirror one of them.  See my tag for positioning.

Open Tree1, resize 60%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Position this layer above your background layer, to the right of your frame.  See my tag for reference.

Highlight your top layer, open Flower4 from your scrap kit.  Resize 85%, copy and paste as a new layer.  Image > Mirror > Image > Flip.  Position on the left side of your frame.

Choose some more elements to add to your tag.  I chose Card1, Flower 1, 2 and 3 and the XmasHeart.  Resize and arrange as desired.

Drop shadow all layers.  Hide your background layer and merge visible.  Center your tag on the canvas.  Resize this layer 85%.

Highlight your background layer.  Select a paper from your kit, copy and paste as a new layer.

Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask From Disk.  Find WSL_Mask105 and apply using these settings: Source luminance, fit to layer, hide all mask, invert mask unchecked.  In your layer palette, select the mask layer, right click and choose Merge > Merge Group.  Use your raster deform tool to adjust the mask if desired.

Hide your background layer and select your crop tool.  Click the Merged Opaque button on the top menu bar, shown below:
This gets rid of all the excess canvas without cutting off any of your mask or drop shadows.

Now add your name and all applicable copyright and license information.  Save as a jpg or png file and you're finished!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial, thank you for trying it!

Hugs, Carol
