Christmas Elegance (FTU)

(click on image to see full-size version)

Christmas Elegance

This tutorial was written by me on November 25th, 2009.  Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

PSP Version used: PSP X2, but should work in other versions.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP, its tools and functions.

Tools Needed

Scrap kit of choice: I used a FTU kit called "Christmas Elegance" by Baby Cakes Scraps.  This is an add-on to Lynne's full-size version and it's gorgeous!!  Thanks so much for this generous share Lynne!  You can download it from her blog HERE and as of this posting, the full-size kit is on sale for only $1!  You can purchase it HERE.

Tube of choice: I'm using the beautiful artwork of Jennifer Janesko with a valid license.  You can purchase Jennifer's tubes from CILM.

Mask: WSL_Mask84 by Chelle, which you can download HERE

Plug-in needed: Eye Candy 4000, Gradient Glow (optional)

Font of choice, I'm using Champagne.

Ready?  Let's begin!

Open a new image, 700 x 700, white background.  We'll resize later.

From the scrap kit, open bcs_golden_frame, resize 50%.  Copy and paste as a new layer.  Image > Free Rotate > Rotate left 90 degrees.

Using your magic wand with tolerance set to 20 and feather set to 0, click inside your frame.  Selections > Modify > Expand > Expand by 15.

Open a paper of your choice, resize if desired, copy and paste as a new layer.  Selections > Invert > Delete.  Move this layer below your frame.  Do not deselect.
Open your tube, resize as needed to fit inside frame.  Copy and paste as a new layer, delete any excess.  Selections > Select None.

Add a drop shadow of choice to the tube and frame.

Open bcs_flower_bow, resize 30%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, place on the left side of the frame, in the middle of the greenery.  See my tag for reference.  Drop shadow.

Open bcs_tassel, resize 30%, then 70%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move underneath your bow, arrange so it looks like it's hanging from the bow.  Drop shadow.

Open bcs_word_art, resize 60%.  Copy and paste as a new layer, move to the top of the frame.  Apply a light drop shadow.

Now add whatever extra elements you would like!  I used poinsettia 2, silk flower, vine star and wire deer.  Resize and place as desired, adding a drop shadow to each layer.

Make sure you're happy with the placement of all layers, then hide your background layer and merge visible.  Use your crop tool to get rid of your excess canvas, then resize your merged layer 85%.

Highlight your background layer.  Selections > Select All.  Add a new raster layer.  Open a paper of choice from the scrap kit, copy and paste into selection.  Select None.

Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask From Disk.  Find WSL_Mask84 and apply using these settings: Source luminance, fit to canvas, hide all mask, invert mask unchecked.  In your layer palette, right click on the mask layer and choose Merge > Merge Group.

Add you name and all applicable copyright/license information.  I also added a gradient glow effect to the name, but this is up to you.

Resize your tag if desired, save as a jpg or png and you're finished.  Thanks for trying my tut and I'd love it if you'd show me your results!

Hugs, Carol
